Empanadas have been around for hundreds of years, originating in Spain in the early 1600’s. Every culture uses its own unique ingredients and preparation techniques. However, it was the traditional Argentine empanada recipes, and simple take-to-go bakeries and outdoor gourmet markets, that Sergio Ciba, an entrepreneur with a passion for specialty foods, found especially inspiring. Since 2010, Sergio’s artisanal style empanadas have been a favorite at farmer’s markets throughout Southern California, and in 2015 Sergio’s Empanadas opened its first restaurant on the bluffs of Laguna Beach.
